Israel Has Turned 60, and I'm 62
This photo was taken while visiting my Aunt Jenny in New York, on the day Israel's Independence was declared. I have some vague memories of all the adults--my Aunt Jenny and Uncle Harry, and my parents, laughing and crying while listening to the radio in the "front room" of the fifth floor, walk-up tenement flat on Avenue B and 4th Street. Next month, Jenny and Harry's granddaughter--a woman only 4 years younger than myself, her husband, and their two grown children (Jenny's great-grandson is the same age as my son) and son-in-law will visit Israel for the first time.

Happy belated Birthday, Antigonos!
Cannot tell a lie...my birthday's in October, so I'm really only a year and 7 months older than Israel..
But then, my husband, whose civil birthday fell this year on the Hebrew date of the founding of the State, is 4 years younger than Israel...
I'd like to write that he's a "real Israeli" but, for the US government, he was born in the sovereign country of "Jerusalem" [they will not admit that Jerusalem is part of Israel]. So, incidentally, are our children. Never knew there was a country named "Jerusalem", did you?
